Parents are naturally anxious as soon as they said good bye to their children on the summer camp gates. Some parents give their children a 24 hours lecture on how to be safe and how to care for themselves. But ironically even parents know that it just comes in from one ear and gets out from the other still you can not help it. So do I. Summer camps are an environment for children to learn and be independent. So the most natural thing to do for parents is to protect and ready your children physically, mentally and emotionally. Emotional readiness is the hardest thing to achieve but with proper process and talks with the children will prepare them emotionally. Mental preparation is another hard task to do. Yet parents know that the mind of the child is like a sponge that takes it all. Physical readiness is another thing to prepare of. How can we protect our children as we send off to nights without us – parents?
You as a parent know what your child is capable of doing. You as a parent knows what make them sick and their favorites. You know what are their allergies and their illnesses. So make the counselors know of any concerns. Before sending them off, parents should boost the child’s immune system and health before waving your good bye at the summer camp gates. One way of preparing your children knows the kind of summer camp activities that they would be doing and thus you can also prepare the appropriate clothing and activity tools. That way the child won’t felt left out.
Protecting our children also means choosing the summer camps that we will be enrolling our kids, did we check the summer camp that we had chosen? How about the program? the counselors? the place? the summer camps reputation? how about the summer camp themes?
