A survey showed the United States is failing when it comes to honing math skills for both boys and girls and those who succeeded in math Olympiads are known to be US immigrants who came from other countries that value mathematics.
The study also said girls are those who usually excel in math because of their exceptional talents and perseverance to learn the techniques. But the skills to become engineers, math researchers and scientists are rarely seen in Americans, according to the survey. One of the reasons seen in this is that American culture does not really give too much importance to math subjects that also discourage both boys and girls to learn more.
To make them love math, after realizing that people from Asia and other emigrants only excel in math, there are now international summer camps for math held in various parts of the globe. This is done so that students in the US will have a good time interacting with math wizards of the world, thus, learning their skills and strategies.
Janet Mertz, a professor of Oncology at the University of Winconsin, said many people in America seem to be living in a culture that tells girls they can’t do math and only Asians and nerds excel in this subject. In fact, the study found out that people representing America in competitions are children of immigrants from countries where math is on top of the major subjects. Americas math leaders are now confident that with the Kids Summer camps for math and other activities more and more American students would love to include in their priority subjects because math is a very useful subjects in other learning process, involving science, physics, calculus and even engineering and other related subject matters.
Hundreds of math wizards are now participating in summer camp activities from all over the globe with the same purpose of excelling in math, as they not only learn the strategies in math solving problems but also the many opportunities of meeting new friends across the globe and having the time to take a look at how other countries develop. International students are also happy to travel to different summer camp destinations in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
