After a very hectic schedule, studying, working and now come summer. I welcomed this happy season with open arms. Though, nothing has changed with the hectic and busy schedule but the sight of flowers, palm trees, cherry blossoms and the sound of rattling palm leaves are the pledges of spring that brings an added pound of joy in every ones veins- me included.
This summer is extra special for me because I will be working as a paid volunteer in a camp near our home! Though the recession is very much in everyone’s neck, the summer camp jobs are still available for those who wanted to acquire the experience of being a summer camp counselor and staff.
In fact, a summer camp in Dominican Republic just posted a vacancy for a summer camp teacher. The Dream Project posted the vacancy last March 26, 2009 and the deadline for applications will be on April 15, 2009 and summer camp will start on Jun 28, 2009. It is a full-time job for Mathematics Teacher.
The summer camp is for at-risk children with the age range 9 to 18. It gives educational support for children through specialized, experiential and individualized programs. Summer camps are the best way to intervene on a still sprouting problem before it becomes a full blast adolescent problem.
The Montessori type of teaching is applied in every program. The job of summer counselor is guide and direct children to become a world citizen though its emphasis is those children who has tendency to drop out because the learner feels that he is not equipped to succeed in school.
Teachers are expected to do the job from Monday to Friday from 8 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon. There are also camp volunteer’s in charge for the planning of the day’s activities. It is an advantage when the applicant has the experience in working with children and with Spanish skills and a teacher certification.
Summer is not only fun for those who wanted to be in camp but also summer jobs.
