Before planning a summer camp, you must choose a camp to go to. A lot of things are depending on the choice of the camp. In general there are a couple of things you can think of before start with packing.
- Preparing your child properly for a summer camp
Before sending your child to a summer camp, think about the activities he/she will be going to do. Aside from that realize that most of the clothes can’t be washed at the place of the camp. Pack appropriate clothes for your child, what he/she needs when he/she will be there. It is wise to start packing a couple of weeks before, just to make sure you’ll forget nothing. It would be a bit stupid when your child is on a camp without underwear for example.
- Consult the Camp Leader for a list of luggage regulations
Before sending you child to a summer camp you might want to check by the camp what to bring and what not to bring. It won’t be an exception if they have rules about how many luggages can be brought.
When you child is traveling by plane, remember that he can take a limited amount of luggage, otherwise they will charge him for everything he brings more.
When you’ve decided where your child will go, think of what the place is like and if your child needs anything special. In some cases your child will need injections against several diseases which are normal/regular in the place he is going to spend his summer camp. The best way to do this is consult your doctor and talk about the consequences of not doing it.
Parents must be sure about the health of the child before sending him/her to a summer camp. The time your child is away you can’t look after it, but the staff at the camp will do that for you. This is also one of the reasons why parents who have children with handicaps or maybe diseases should contact the camp to make precautions. Health is one of the most important things looking at your child, so the last thing you want is a bad preparation.
Your child will be away from you for a certain period, but what will happen if something happens to him? Is he insured and will he be helped in a hospital when he gets badly injured? Make sure that your insurance will cover all the possible accidents of your child. If you’ve done that you will see that you’re less worried than before.
This is an important part because if you’re not up to date you can come in situations you don’t want to be in. Make sure that you’ll get a list of every activity you child is going to be in. Get familiar with the consequences of all the activities and just think ahead of what you have to do when things go wrong. Get your child properly prepared for the camp, make sure he gets there on time and in the right way. Always ask for the date when the camp is over, where to pick your child up and how to react in inconvenient situations.
Always ask for the number of the one who’s responsible for your child, in case of homesickness or any other awkward situations.
